1. mad --- madness

drive sb mad 把某人逼疯 drive 迫使 drive sb adj

force sb to do 强迫某人做……

be mad at 对……生气 He is mad at his classmate.

2. reason for + 名词

reason why +句子

3. a large sum of 大量的后接不可数名词 =a large amount of 许多

4. determine v 决定，

be determined to do 决定做某事

5. 现在分词做定语往往有进行的含义

developing country 发展中的 boiling water 沸水

falling leaves （正在飘落的）落叶

6. 过去分词做定语往往有完成或被动的含义

developed country 发达国家 boiled water 已经沸腾了的水

fallen leaves （已经落下的）落叶

7. day and night 日日夜夜

8. for some reason 因为某个原因

9. come into use 开始使用

10. put to good use 充分利用

11. must / may/ can’t + have + done 是对过去事实的推测。

He may have had lunch already.

He must have finished his homework.

should have done 本应该含有责备的含义

12. drive away 逼走 drive sb away 把某人逼走

13. left 剩下的 There are only two cakes left. 只剩两张饼。

There is only 5 minutes left.

14. a passing plane 一个飞过的飞机

15. knock down 撞倒 = knock over

knock at / on the door 敲门

knock off 降价，打折扣下班

knock out 打昏，打晕

16. offer sb sth = offer sth to sb 向某人提供

offer to do 主动做……

17. go away 走开

18. drive sb out of one’s home 赶出家园

19. a large amount of 许多接不可数

20. correct 正确的 = right v 纠正

21. equal v 相等 equal work , equal pay 同工同酬
